Oxford sits in the northwest corner of Butler County, about forty miles up Route 27 from Cincinnati, and it is shaped by one thing above all: Miami University. The town grew out of the original Mile Square laid out in 1810, and that historic core still holds some of the oldest housing in the region. In the streets just east of campus, nearly every home was built in 1939 or earlier, and three historic districts — Uptown, the University district, and Western College — protect blocks of brick-paved, tree-lined streets full of pre-Civil War houses.
Those old homes come with old windows. Oxford is not all nineteenth-century, though. Newer subdivisions like Owls Landing on the edge of town, along with the mid-century ranches scattered between, bring a different problem: first-generation double-pane units whose seals have failed, leaving moisture fogging the glass from the inside.
