Vandalia earned its nickname, the Crossroads of America, more than a century ago, where the old National Road crossed the Dixie Highway near the middle of town. The city still sits at the meeting of I-75 and I-70, with Dayton International Airport right in the heart of it. Benjamin Wilhelm built the first house and store here back in 1838, but the homes most Vandalia families live in today are far newer — the bulk of the city’s housing stock went up during the 1970s.
That single decade shapes nearly every window job we do in town. Tree-lined subdivisions like Timberwind and The Falls are full of ranches, tri-levels, Cape Cods, and Tudor-style homes that are now about fifty years old. The double-pane windows that came with them were a genuine upgrade at the time, but first-generation insulated glass was never built to last this long.
